At the July 16 meeting, the Mercer County Board of Commissioners accepted multiple grants and authorized grant applications affecting county facilities and social services. The board accepted a $25,000 PCoRP Loss Prevention Grant to support fire alarm and extinguisher testing, purchase of a walk-through metal detector, Courthouse automatic door repairs, ice melt supplies and cybersecurity training (Resolution 2026-298).
Commissioners also approved steps for an Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) the county will contract for sub-recipient AWARE, Inc.; AWARE Director Megan McConahy described services the organization will provide, including essential services, operations and HHIS data input. The board approved application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for up to $400,000 for preliminary engineering of Bridge 1812 on South Orangeville Road (Resolution 2026-300); the county stated no local match is required for that application.
The grants package was approved by unanimous votes. The meeting record indicates AWARE will provide match dollars and that the county is acting as the contracting entity for ESG funds; grant terms and reporting responsibilities will follow as part of normal grant administration.
