Mercer County awards $1.79 million in contracts for Agricultural and Conservation Community Learning Center

Commissioner McGonigle said the project "has been in-process for a couple of years" and introduced Vincent Ordinario of HHSDR Engineering to explain next steps, including issuance of award letters, contract execution, and pre-construction meetings. Vincent Ordinario told commissioners the project will start soon and that construction involves renovating existing structures. Martin Wierzba questioned the math, asking why a $1.5 million grant would be insufficient given the total of the awarded bids; commissioners replied that additional funds will come from Senator Michelle Brooks and community funders.
The board voted unanimously to approve the awards. The contracts are contingent on the contractors entering into formal agreements with Mercer County. Vincent Ordinario said renovation work is required to be completed by December 31, 2026, per project timeline requirements noted to the board.
The approved package moves the learning center from planning into the procurement and contracting phase; commissioners thanked staff and external partners for assistance on the grant and procurement work. No additional funding source details beyond the referenced state grant and community contributions were specified at the meeting.
