Red Lion Borough Council approved a motion to allow Secretary/Treasurer Amanda Runkle to apply for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) 2026 P2P2 grant to fund upgrades to park bathrooms, installation of dog-waste stations and additional trash receptacles. The motion was made by Cindy Barley and seconded by Shauntia Phillips; council voted in favor and the motion carried.
Council members emphasized that the application will proceed only if a match grant is also secured so that the borough would not be required to provide matching funds. Parks committee members and staff discussed including doggy trash stations as part of the project; Evan Heister suggested the stations be requested as part of the DCNR application. The parks committee also approved a separate request to allow Barshinger Creek Preservation Alliance to use Fairmount Park on May 1 from 4–8 p.m., with the applicant confirming cleanup and trash arrangements.
