Resident urges clearer language on proposed agenda-submission ordinance

At a public hearing Aug. 4 on proposed ordinance 4222 — which would amend Bellevue Municipal Code sections that govern agenda submission and administrative review — Diane Bruce of 13414 South 22nd Street read from a submitted letter and urged the council to revise the proposed language. Bruce said the current wording, as she understood it, could allow a future council member "to abuse this power," and she asked the council to "rethink this and do what's right for our community."
Mayor opened the hearing, gave opportunity for comment and closed the hearing after Bruce's remarks. The council placed the ordinance on the calendar for a third reading and vote on Aug. 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. Bruce's letter was accepted for the record. Council members did not take action on the ordinance at the Aug. 4 meeting beyond scheduling the next reading.
