Council approves revised employee handbook; member highlights sick-leave exceptions

The Bellevue City Council approved a revised employee handbook Aug. 4 after council members discussed discretionary exceptions and staff input. Councilman Burns thanked Human Resources staff and noted that, while the handbook clarifies policies, some exceptions remain possible with HR approval.
During discussion Burns said he owed the council an apology for not sharing all aspects of prior discussions and noted how the handbook handles sick-leave flexibility: "exceptions to this policy may be made with prior approval by the human resources director." The motion to approve the handbook was made, seconded and carried with all voting in favor.
The council did not record specific amendments to the handbook on the floor; staff cited prior review and discussion leading to the revised document now adopted.
