Santa Rosa ISD board hears bond update with new pricing for CTE renovation

The Santa Rosa Independent School District board received a bond project update Sept. 16 that flagged several unforeseen conditions in the CTE/Early College renovation and requested pricing on needed repairs.

Ernie Villarreal, the district's bond project manager, told trustees that contractor proposals have been submitted for several items discovered during construction. "Existing electrical panels in the CTE Building are not grounded - the cost submitted is $43,200.00," Villarreal said while reviewing owner requests for pricing. He also identified a lighting replacement estimate of $31,015 and a VCT flooring replacement estimate of $35,630 for areas that will be renovated to match new finishes.

Villarreal described a set of construction challenges that have required design or scope changes, including a concrete grade beam obstructing an intended sanitary sewer alignment, a depressed slab that must be filled with a high non-shrink concrete mix, and an HVAC duct redesign to accommodate an existing steel column. Trustees were shown a list of owner-requested price proposals and told the district's architects and contractors are working through options.

The board also reviewed exterior-project estimates tied to the bond, including roof work for De La Fuente locker rooms with a TPO repair price of $71,540 and a revised storm-drain repair at the Chepe Gym for $11,500. A district purchase order for middle-school weight-room renovations was reported at $51,182; available budget lines and remaining bond balances were discussed by staff.

The presentation did not specify final contract awards. Board members asked for continued weekly updates on the CTE project until completion and for staff to return with formal change orders and recommended funding moves before the board approves additional spending.
