Engineering lays out paving alternates; council prioritizes lower Market Street and selected side streets

Danforth told the council a full rebuild of Market Street from Van Dyke to the city line would cost roughly $6,267,000, a figure several council members said would preclude work on numerous smaller streets in different wards. Council discussion centered on whether to prioritize the entirety of Market Street or to use funds to address more small-street needs; members expressed consensus for completing lower Market and selecting brown-highlighted alternates on the engineer’s list.
Staff noted that CHIPS and DOT schedules affect timing, and council members asked staff to finalize the alternate list and move forward with the base bid work.
