Dr. Kim Liles told the board that ELA committees across district buildings began in January to review current writing rubrics and explore the Writing Rope framework to strengthen writing instruction and vertical alignment from K–8. The winter benchmark assessment period concluded the week before the Feb. 4 meeting and building principals and Dr. Liles plan to share Winter Student Achievement data with the board.
The district's Feb. 27 professional development day will be district‑led and focus on learner characteristics and Competency‑Based Education; Dr. Liles said one session will feature researcher Rebecca Winthrop. The board identified vertical alignment and rubric work as an area for continued focus.
