Heritage Pines board approves $19,200 algae-treatment contract with Premier Lakes

The Heritage Pines Community Development District board on Oct. 15 approved a $19,200 contract with Premier Lakes, Inc. to provide pond algae treatment, a move the district manager said would save about $3,200 per year compared with the incumbent vendor.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented the proposal and described the change as a cost-saving measure and an operational shift. He told the board that, if approved, he would initiate a 30-day termination with SOLitude to end services on Nov. 30, 2024, with Premier Lakes to commence service Dec. 1, 2024. Mr. Adams said the proposal represented an overall annual savings when compared to the SOLitude contract.
Resident Susan Napolitano asked what product SOLitude sprays into the lakes; Mr. Adams said it is "a copper-based product" and explained that "the odor is a product of the degasification of the algae, which lasts a couple of days." The board approved the Premier Lakes proposal on a motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh, seconded by Supervisor Carol Vaughan; the motion passed with all in favor.
The district directed staff to effect the contract transition and update reports to show which ponds are treated under the new vendor. The move also closed an outstanding action item to replace the vendor after the board reviewed recent performance concerns and vendor reporting.
