Fire retirees urge city to consider benefit rider after small state RSA bonus

"That sum... is sufficient to purchase a loaf of bread each week for a year," Reed said, emphasizing the small scale of the bonus and urging the city to consider providing an additional rider to offset lost dental and vision coverage when retirees move to Medicare at age 65.
Reed said the proposed city action to add an additional rider would be within the council’s authority and urged council members to consider targeted support for older retirees who face higher premiums and benefit gaps.
