Police Chief Poyner told the council Aug. 18 that abatements are underway on properties described as collapsing, falling in, or unsightly and that citations will be issued starting with the worst properties first. He also said Officer Brandon Blake had prepared a handout intended to reduce congestion at the beginning and end of school sessions and that the handout will be circulated.
Chief Poyner did not provide addresses for the properties targeted for immediate citation nor a timeline for abatements beyond the statement that the worst properties will be prioritized. The council did not take separate, immediate action on the abatements during the meeting; enforcement appears to be an administrative Police/Code function.
