MSU Extension highlights 4‑H growth; local ambassadors honored

Mary Hyten of MSU Extension presented the county commission with an overview of 4‑H activities in Sanilac County, introduced two local youth ambassadors and described efforts to rebuild clubs and programming after COVID disruptions.
Hyten said the county’s 4‑H enrollment currently exceeds 400 youth, with many programs running in Brown City, Marlette and Lexington libraries and a focus on expanded programming beyond traditional fair activities. Hyten introduced 4‑H ambassador Austin Barney and Mark of Excellence winner Penelope Moore and thanked county leaders for their time.
Commissioners congratulated the youth representatives and noted support for extension programming.
"We do more than just show animals at the fair," Hyten said, describing archery, baking, embryology demonstrations and youth leadership opportunities.
