Board raises starting pay for bus drivers to $33 an hour

The Center Cass SD 66 Board of Education approved a revised Transportation Pay Schedule that establishes a starting pay rate of $33.00 per hour for bus drivers. The motion, made by Megan DuPass and seconded by Steve Dlugo, passed on a unanimous 7–0 vote. "Motion to approve the Transportation Pay Schedule with starting pay at $33.00 an hour," appears in the meeting record as the formal motion.
Superintendent Dr. Wise recommended the increase, saying district drivers have been paid substantially less than those in neighboring districts and bus companies and that incremental raises following the referendum had not closed the gap. Board members said the higher starting rate should help retain current drivers and attract new hires. The Board tied the action to ongoing transportation staffing priorities and planned maintenance and safety recertification work over the holiday break.
