Cerro Gordo school board votes to expel student CG2025-01; expulsion held in abeyance pending alternative program

Board member Curran moved the expulsion; Board member Howell seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of Bebar, Curran, Howell and Greenwood — all yea.
The board specified that the expulsion will be held in abeyance if the student attends and successfully completes an alternative school program. The motion recorded the board’s finding that interventions had been exhausted and that the continued presence posed a safety or disruption risk. The board took the action after meeting in executive session under the student-discipline exception to the Illinois Open Meetings Act, citing 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9).
