The Town Board of Long Lake voted April 30 to publish an Invitation For Bids for tree and stump removal in Shaw Brook under the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Project #5060-005. The resolution directs the Town Clerk to accept proposals until May 23, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
Supervisor Clay J. Arsenault presented the proposed IFB package and cited engineering work by the Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District and USDA NRCS identifying two areas of downed debris that, officials say, must be removed to protect the stream from future flood damage. The resolution notes the publication and bidding will comply with NYS General Municipal Law Article 5-A §§103 & 104 and NYS Labor Law Articles 8 & 9. Councilman Nathan S. Hosley abstained from the vote; the motion carried with four ayes and one abstention.
Board members emphasized the objective is hazard reduction following the July 2023 storm and flood event that deposited trees and stumps along Shaw Brook. The IFB requires a licensed contractor with appropriate equipment; the board approved attaching the IFB to the certified resolution and authorized the Town Clerk's Office to publish public notice.
