Board honors October students of the month: Brooke Phelan and Keegan Winthrop

At its Oct. 21 meeting the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District recognized two seniors as Students of the Month.
Brooke Phelan was introduced as the Elks-sponsored October Student of the Month. The superintendent said Brooke ranks among the top 10% of her class with a weighted GPA of 4.37, is enrolled in multiple AP courses and is active in athletics and community service programs including the National Charity League and local parks and recreation activities.
The board also recognized Keegan Winthrop, described as a top-five student with a weighted GPA of 4.62 who has completed dual-enrollment college coursework, played varsity tennis and helped lead the team to the district's first CIF girls tennis title in 2024. The superintendent noted Keegan's volunteer work with the Beaulton Senior Center and other local organizations and cited her recovery from a serious childhood accident as part of her personal background.
Board members applauded the students and invited the public to celebrate their achievements at upcoming events.
