Board approves Olive Grove charter renewal, authorizes superintendent to finalize oversight MOU

The Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District board voted Oct. 21 to approve the renewal petition for Olive Grove Charter School and authorized the superintendent to finalize a memorandum of understanding that will define oversight and responsibilities.
"Administration is recommending that the board approve Olive Grove... and authorize the superintendent to finalize the memorandum of understanding," the superintendent said, citing the district's oversight review and the California Education Code language included in the meeting materials. The administration reported the charter met applicable operational, academic and fiscal requirements and recommended approval after presenting its findings at a prior public hearing on Sept. 9, 2025.
During public comment, Meg Redman, superintendent of Olive Grove Charter Schools, thanked district staff for collaboration and asked the board to approve the renewal petition. The board moved, seconded and approved the renewal by roll call; all present members voted in favor.
The board also authorized the superintendent to negotiate the MOU that will govern continuing oversight responsibilities. The district materials referenced state education-code guidance that informed the review; board members praised the transparency of the charter's materials.
