Advisory board seeks uniform e-filing rejection reasons for clerks

Cindy Grant, vice chair of the advisory board and a Supreme Court clerk, told the committee that some jurisdictions add rejection reasons not in the uniform standards and asked the rules committee to make clear clerks should use only those standard reasons. "The intent of the rule was to standardize the clerk's rejection reasons, which is a list of specific reasons for clerks to use when rejecting an electronic filing," Grant said, adding that the advisory board offered trainings when the rule first took effect.
Committee members asked how enforcement or remedies would work when a clerk improperly rejects a filing outside the standards; Grant said the advisory board is considering mechanisms and that AOIC provided trainings when prior changes became effective.
