Board proposes uniform score 'date of attainment' and expanded transfer eligibility

Eric Lorenz, director of administration for the Board of Admissions to the Bar, told the committee proposal 24-17 would clarify the date a UBE score is deemed attained and to expand who may transfer a UBE score to Illinois. "The 1st main respect in which we want to amend rule 704 a is to clarify in paragraph a of the rule, the date on which a score on the UBE is deemed to be attained, and the date we are proposing for that is the Wednesday of the week in which the bar exam was administered," Lorenz said.
Lorenz added the board proposes expanding paragraph b to allow certain graduates of foreign law schools to transfer UBE scores to Illinois so admission-by-transfer mirrors eligibility to sit for Illinois's bar exam. He said the board considered and rejected a submission that would date validity to an individual's last testing day because scores are released simultaneously and individual dating would create administrative difficulties.
