The Chaney-Monge School District 88 Board of Education approved an amended FY26 budget at its June 16 meeting, responding to higher-than-expected special-education costs and other adjustments.
"The budget is being tweaked but is not great as SPED costs are through the roof," said Director of Business Services Mary Ann Egizio, summarizing the district's fiscal strain. The board approved the FY26 amendment on a 5-0 roll call (Ramsak, Mason, Methvin, Sanchez and Lopez present; Fuglsang and Godinez absent). Rosie Sanchez moved to approve the amended budget and Mason seconded the motion.
The approval followed the consent agenda, which included minutes and financial reports; interim bills were listed at $663,344.69. Board materials and staff commentary said transfers would be made as necessary to align expenditures with higher special-education obligations.
Board members noted the district is completing year-end accounting tasks and will continue to monitor SPED spending into FY27. Superintendent Andy Siegfried said administrative adjustments and project timing for the summer would be used to manage cash flow, and the board will review updates at the next regular meeting on July 21.
