Rafi Naljian, a member of the board of trustees and a deacon at Saint Mary's Armenian Apostolic Church, addressed the commission during public comment and asked commissioners to recommend approval of the Animated Sign Overlay Zone.
Naljian said the church currently relies on a manual letter-board sign that requires volunteer labor each weekend and that digital signage would allow the church to post events and community notices more efficiently. "Saint Mary's has existed for over 50 years... the new proposal by the planning commission would allow an organization such as Saint Mary's to greatly benefit from the digital signage," he said. He emphasized the church's intent not to use flashing or animated graphics and said he believed the city's standards could control size and brightness.
Staff thanked him and noted the commission's recommendation will be forwarded to City Council, where further public input may occur.
