Staff also emphasized location rules: signs must face major arterial streets, be within the first 50 feet of the street-front property line, not face residential uses, and not obstruct right-of-way visibility; public‑works and traffic review would be required for building permits.
For car dealerships on Brand Boulevard, staff noted different allowances under existing rules: dealerships may have up to three ground signs depending on frontage, an increased maximum area (1.5 square feet per linear foot up to 640 square feet), and different height limits (multiple signs up to 35 feet, a single-sign option up to 57 feet under existing standards). "Again, only 1 of those may be animated," staff said when describing how the overlay would apply to auto dealer lots.
