Board approves distribution of Secure Rural Schools funds to districts

Staff briefed the board on Secure Rural Schools (forest reserve) funding recently reauthorized at the federal level and described how the county's distributions will be handled. Steve Horace explained that a portion of the federal allocation goes to the county for road repairs and 50% of the program's county share is allocated for education; by statute the SBCO may retain 15% for county functions and the remaining 85% is distributed to districts using a formula that splits the 85% between territory within district boundaries and student counts in that territory.
Horace said the 23'24 distribution was small ("only $3,000" in the county portion, he noted) because a portion was sequestered, while the 24'25 apportionment is larger. The board voted to approve the recommended distributions for each year and the motion passed unanimously.
