The Santa Barbara County Board of Education hosted a recognition ceremony highlighting classified school employees from across the county and introduced the county’s 2027 Teacher of the Year. The event featured honorees from varied roles — a campus security officer, maintenance staff, an office manager and a community liaison — and included remarks from the superintendent and human-resources staff explaining the nomination and selection process.
Alejandra Navarro, a 1st-grade dual language immersion teacher at El Camino School in the Goleta Union School District, was announced as the 2027 County Teacher of the Year. Navarro said bilingualism is a core value of her work and thanked colleagues and family: "Bilingualism is not just an asset. It is something to be celebrated, something to protect, and something to be proud of." Other honorees included Teddy, a campus security officer at the Mark Richardson Center who described mentorship as central to safety: "Every conversation, every intervention, every moment we choose to mentor instead of simply discipline, those are the moments that shape a safer stronger campus community." The board recessed after the ceremony and scheduled a set of photos and follow-ups.
