The board voted to hire John Hurd as recycling coordinator at a starting salary of $31 an hour, with a six-month probationary period and a start date of July 15, 2025.
"Recycling coordinator with a starting salary of $31 an hour effective 07/15/2025, subject to completion of a probationary period of 6 months," the chair announced when putting the motion before the board. Several members noted the position’s duties extend beyond recycling into solid-waste management; one member said "this job is really, more of a solid waste manager because ... it's dealing with the state, it's doing outreach, it's writing a solid waste plan." The board agreed to hire immediately and to place a discussion of the job title and description on the next agenda so the role and formal title can be adjusted if needed.
