Lockport urges state to keep $50 million in temporary municipal aid

The City of Lockport Common Council on Dec. 4 adopted a resolution calling on the Governor and State Legislature to continue an additional $50 million in unrestricted state aid (referred to as Temporary Municipal Assistance) in the 2025–26 State Budget. Alderman Mullane moved the resolution and Alderman Kirchberger seconded it; the measure was adopted unanimously (Ayes 6).
The resolution notes municipalities had not received increases in unrestricted state aid for 15 years and states that while the recent $50 million increase helps, it may be temporary; the Council urged state officials to commit to continued, predictable support to keep pace with inflation and municipal needs.
