City schedules joint utility meeting to discuss 'gross alpha' water issue; Port Authority and summer events also announced

City staff told the Rosemount City Council on Aug. 3 that the city will hold a joint meeting with the utility commission on Aug. 18 to present current findings and possible solutions related to a local "gross alpha" matter affecting water quality monitoring.

Mr. Egger, who the mayor asked to speak about the evening’s schedule, described the planned joint session: "It's a joint meeting of the utility commission and the city council. What will be the topic on that agenda will be a presentation of where we're at with, regard to solutions for the gross alpha issue and informing, all of the the members, about where things are trending towards and and and working further towards, getting to a point of final decision making." He said the meeting is intended to update members and outline next steps.

City staff also previewed community events: Mr. Martin noted Night to Unite activities (47 neighborhood parties the following night) and the mayor announced a splash pad summer celebration scheduled for Aug. 14 at Central Park. City leaders said they expect follow-up information from utility staff and the utility commission meeting on Aug. 18 to guide any future council action.

No decisions about remedies or timelines for resolution of the "gross alpha" issue were recorded in the Aug. 3 meeting; staff characterized the Aug. 18 session as informational and preparatory for later decision-making.
