City staff said mold mitigation work on the ARNC's 5th floor (Tier 3) is complete and that the City has started rebuild work there, with other roof work to be phased over time.
"We have not done the testing for the type of mold. No matter what type of mold it is, we will always mitigate," said Stephanie Kuiper, manager of homelessness, describing the City's approach after mold was found during renovations. Kuiper said the City patched the main roof and prioritized the Tier 3 roof for full replacement while applying phased plans for the remainder.
Kuiper also noted interior accessibility upgrades: staff are updating rooms to current ADA compliance, planning approximately 12 rooms with mobility features and 17 rooms with communication features. Council members asked whether the remaining roof areas had structural concerns; staff said no immediate structural issues were identified but that the City would re-evaluate after storms and proceed with further repairs if needed.
