Commission proclaims September Suicide Prevention Awareness Month after health council presentation

Stephanie Evans, a licensed professional counselor with Mydeo Christian Mental Health Services and a representative of the Robertson County Health Council, urged officials to raise awareness of local suicide-prevention resources and to promote the 988 crisis line.
“Well, when someone has a mental health emergency, they can call 988,” Evans said, and she noted the council provides trainings and free outreach materials. She told commissioners the county health council was recognized by the Tennessee Department of Health and received a $10,000 grant to support local suicide-prevention efforts.
Mayor William A. Vogel read a proclamation designating September 2024 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in Robertson County and encouraged residents to check on family, friends and neighbors. The commission adopted the proclamation by voice vote.
Evans also highlighted state and rural trends discussed at the meeting, saying the transcripted county-level suicide rate cited was 17.7 (higher than the national rate), and urged officials and community organizations to use the grant funds and trainings to expand awareness and local response capacity.
