Committee says courtyard plaza is a separate, congressionally funded project; trustees ask for funding breakdown
Summary
Officials told the joint committee the adjacent Courtyard/Plaza is a separately funded project — including congressionally directed spending — and not part of the library construction budget; aldermen requested exact funding sources and timing.

Alderman Paula Johnson and others asked whether the courtyard (plaza) work between the library and the 14 Court Street building will increase the library renovation costs. Joe Sullivan and Director Tim Cummings answered that the plaza is a separate project with its own funding streams and does not directly increase the library's budget, although coordination is essential to avoid duplicated work and cost overruns.
Cummings said the plaza funding includes congressionally directed spending and that the community development department is managing the plaza project; he and the OPM said they would obtain detailed funding and schedule documentation for the committee. Alderman Johnson requested an itemized breakdown of the plaza funding and for staff to confirm how long congressional funds remain available.
