Officials outline $45M plan for Nashua library addition, warn bond authorization needed this fall

City staff and consultants told the joint Infrastructure Committee and Library Board of Trustees that the preferred library option is roughly a $45,000,000 project and will add about 60,000 square feet across two to three floors. "This addition option is an approximately $45,000,000 project," Director Tim Cummings told the committee during the project overview.
Staff said the schematic-design package is expected by mid-October, with a trustee review early in September and construction bond discussions about a year from now. Cummings advised that a bond authorization will likely be needed in the fall to fund the remainder of design work and keep the project on the planned critical path.
Why it matters: the committee and trustees are setting the program and budget assumptions that will underpin bidding and financing. Staff emphasized transparency on budgets and said detailed cost breakdowns will be provided to members ahead of future votes.
