Board approves sheriffs request to map Whitehall schools for emergency response

The Whitehall School District board voted to allow the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office to photograph and GPS‑map district buildings for emergency response.
Captain and Detective Chad Cross of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office described the Oscar 360 camera system for the board and showed how it creates 360‑degree spherical photos that can be overlaid with floor plans and GPS coordinates. "This is called the Oscar 3 60. It is a camera system for scribe scene processing," Cross said, explaining the product can create a virtual tour of campus interiors for use by responding officers.
Superintendent Hannah Nuskin told the board the administration recommended approval but required consent because the project involves photographs and GPS data. Nuskin said the sheriff's office assured the district the files "will remain housed on their secure... servers, and it's not accessible to the public." The board moved, seconded and passed the motion to approve the mapping project.
The presentation explained how the virtual tour could speed an outside SWAT or mutual‑aid team's orientation to unfamiliar buildings and that the sheriff's office would perform the imaging at times when students were not present. Board members did not request amendments or conditions during the vote. The sheriff's office will schedule the work on noninstructional days and maintain the data as described.
