The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners on June 23 approved an Interim Use Permit for OMG Midwest dba Minnesota Paving & Materials to expand mining, extraction, or excavation in Section 6 of Delton Township. Alex Schultz, the county Planning & Zoning Technician, told the board that "today, June 23rd, is the deadline in the 60-day time period for the board to approve or deny the request for an Interim Use Permit (IUP) applied for by OMG Midwest dba Minnesota Paving & Materials (MPM)." The record notes that the Planning & Zoning Commission had denied the permit and that the EAW (Environmental Assessment Worksheet) has been appealed to the Court of Appeals.
A motion to approve the permit was made by Commissioner Donna Gravley and seconded by Commissioner Tom Appel; the board vote was 3–2 in favor. The minutes record the vote as "Voting Aye – Gravley, Appel, Stevens. Nay – Anderson, Maras." The decision meets the June 23 deadline Schultz cited; the board provided no additional change to the permit itself at the time of the approval and then took a separate action to attach conditions later in the same meeting.
