The Draper Tree Committee agreed to deploy a $4,000 allotment before the end of June to pay a contractor to plant as many trees as possible using trees already purchased or held in nurseries.
Committee members said the city currently has $20,000 dedicated to trees — a $10,000 donation and about $10,000 of nursery inventory — plus an additional $4,000 that has a near-term expiration. "The 4,000 needs to be used by June," said Bill Mark, a parks/forestry staff member, stressing the deadline. Members discussed using the $4,000 to pay for installation and a one-year contractor warranty rather than purchasing additional nursery stock.
The committee directed volunteers to solicit procurement bids (three bids recommended under procurement rules) and to instruct contractors to install two-inch-caliper trees with a one-year warranty. Possible sites and species were narrowed; the group prioritized replacing dead trees in existing park strips and identified Carlquist as a priority site with irrigation already in place.
The committee set an operational timeframe: trees purchased and installed under the $4,000 allocation must be in the ground by June 30. Members agreed to ask procurement to expedite contractor selection and to confirm the number of trees that can be installed within the budget.
