Board OKs $1.52 million Allied proposal to replace failing middle/high school chiller; door repairs added as alternate

Carlinville CUSD 1 approved a performance contract with Allied for a proposed $1,521,000 chiller replacement at the middle/high school and accepted an alternate door/frame replacement and security upgrade proposal estimated at $555,000.
The Board of Education voted Dec. 15 to approve a performance contract with Allied to replace the aging chiller at the middle and high schools and to pursue an alternate proposal to repair exterior doors and upgrade security hardware.
Dr. Becky Schuchman told the board the chiller was installed in 1994 and several valves, pumps and pipes are corroded. "The proposed cost is $1,521,000 but there are eight additional valves not included in this bid which could change it another $100,000," she said. The Allied alternate for door/frame repairs, new key cores, security film, paint, keypad and sensors was estimated at $555,000. Kyle Bradley moved approval of the Allied contract; Brandon Little seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous (6-0), Sam Harding absent.
The contract includes replacement piping and a two-year warranty; board members noted the project would proceed in summer 2026 pending contractor scheduling and budget monitoring.
