Carlinville CUSD 1's Board of Education voted unanimously Dec. 15 to approve the district's 2025 tax levy, which the district will file with the County Clerk to be collected in 2026. The levy package totals $6,700,000, including $4,360,000 for education and $1,015,000 for operations and maintenance.
Heather DeNeve presented the levy breakdown to the board and said the proposal reflects the district's needs and revenue mix. "This year's levy is 5.21% increase over prior year extension," DeNeve said during the Truth in Taxation hearing. The district identified three main revenue sources: federal funds, state Evidence-Based Funding (EBF), and local taxes.
Board members discussed timing for filing the certificate and next steps; President Kathy Norris confirmed the board will sign the levy certificate before the end of December. Seth Roberts moved approval; Brandon Little seconded. Roll call votes were all yea (6-0), with Sam Harding absent.
Why it matters: the levy funds classroom instruction, special education, transportation and retirement obligations. The board noted the district's tax rate remains comparatively low in the region but cited rising costs and the need to maintain services.
