Tree Board reports MDNR‑funded plantings and recommends Monarch Watch registration for butterfly garden

Nancy Thill read Garden Club and Tree Board minutes noting that five trees were planted in the park on Sept. 25 under the MDNR grant — a Black Gum, two Ironwoods, one Dogwood and one Sugar Maple — and metal fencing has been placed to protect the new trees from deer. Thill said roughly one‑third of club members volunteered to help with spring planting and that the club will work planting numbers into the next budget.
Thill also reported that she met with Mike Mumper and Beth from Pizzo Gardens to plan the butterfly garden and discussed broadcast seeding after herbicide treatment; she proposed registering the garden with Monarch Watch to involve the Day Camp and expand community participation. Arbor Day was held Oct. 5 with Anne Blasko officiating and Rima Binder participating as a dignitary.
