Officials: BP construction paused after state grant access delayed
Summary
District operations staff said construction at the BP site is paused because state grant funds are not yet accessible; no state grant manager has been assigned and the work likely cannot be completed by September.

At a facilities and program-design update, Executive Director of Operations Miguel Gautier told the board that construction at the BP site has been paused. Gautier said a contractor had been lined up after Representative Joe Courtney signaled support, but the state has not assigned a grant manager and the grant funds cannot be accessed; as a result, work is unlikely to finish by September and bonding money cannot be reallocated for the project now.
Board member Susan Hambey said she would ask Councilor Satti, chair of the School Maintenance and Building Committee, to speak with the mayor about alternative options. The board recorded the update and requested further coordination with city officials and the state grant administrator when assigned.
