Board reclassifies assistant county engineer position but rejects retroactive pay request

Kyle Pillatzki asked the Board for the reclassification, saying most assistant engineers earn overtime and that much of his work is on state-aid projects and landfill duties. The Board approved the reclassification (motion by Gravley; second by Anderson).
Pillatzki also sought retroactive pay for 25.75 hours worked during the 2024 flood. He asked the Board for that payment: "he would like to be paid for 25.75 hours." Commissioner Larry Anderson moved to pay the hours at Pillatzki’s 2024 wage and overtime rate, seconded by Gravley. Voting Aye: Kevin Stevens and Wayne Maras. Nay: Tom Appel, Larry Anderson, and Donna Gravley. The motion failed.
Why it matters: changing the classification alters overtime eligibility and payroll procedures for the position going forward; the failed retro-pay motion means no additional payout was authorized for the 2024 flood hours.
