The Village of Lindenhurst Board of Trustees voted Feb. 24 to award a seven‑year Commercial Waste Hauling Franchise Contract to Groot Industries after staff said Groot submitted the most cost‑effective proposal among three respondents.
Trustee Pat Dickson moved to “award a 7‑year Commercial Waste Hauling Franchise Contract to Groot Industries contingent upon reaching an agreement on a service contract with the awardee,” and Trustee Ron Grace seconded; the motion passed by roll call with Trustees Dickson, Chybowski, Suchy, Rosten and Grace voting aye.
Staff told the Board the RFP process began with a Board direction on Oct. 9, 2023 and that an RFP was issued in October 2024. Officials said expected benefits include lower service charges for businesses, higher recycling participation rates, uniform rates, removal of fuel surcharges, and reduced garbage truck traffic on local roads. If implemented, the plan includes a 15‑month transition period with an anticipated conversion deadline of June/July 2026 for affected businesses.
The motion and roll call were the formal action recorded; specifics of the service contract and any pricing guarantees will be finalized in the contract negotiation phase between staff and Groot Industries.
