District highlights SEL, restorative practices and literacy plan as IAR gains expected

Dr. Antoinette Gray, Director of Teaching and Learning, briefed the board on instructional initiatives including social-emotional learning and restorative practices. She said more than 35 instructional leaders contributed over 135 hours to summer work and that 12 staff members became certified restorative justice trainers. The district revised its MTSS plan for academics and behavior and completed a district Literacy Plan funded through an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) grant.
Dr. Gray told the board she expects to see gains on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) in math and English/language arts as a result of the instructional changes and the literacy plan. The report named Miss Sparkle Rogers and Miss Hopewell as lead staff for the SEL curriculum map.
