District staff present bundle of board-policy updates; vote expected May 7

District human-resources and educational-services staff walked the board through proposed updates to board policies and administrative regulations that align SMMUSD documents with California School Boards Association (CSBA) sample language and recent state law changes.
Presenters described revisions to BP 4000 (student achievement and personnel focus), BP/AR 4030 nondiscrimination (expanded definitions and anti-discrimination language reflecting SB 1137), BP/AR 4037 reasonable accommodation, BP 4033 lactation accommodation, and new or updated ARs addressing Title IX harassment complaint procedures and administrative exhibits. Educational-services updates included BP/AR 6112 (school day), concurrent-enrollment policy (CCAP partnership with Santa Monica College), weekend and summer-learning clarifications, supplemental instruction rules, and community day school language. Staff said policies will return as action items at the May 7 meeting and that management training will follow.
