Elizabeth E. "We are in fact closing the achievement gap," Pina said while summarizing recent ELA and math state scores and district dashboard indicators.
Pina outlined school improvements that she said support academic gains: two years of focused designated ELD, project-based learning and outdoor education, social-emotional learning practices (daily morning meetings, calming corners, staff SEL check-ins), a schoolwide support team (psychologist and counselors), and an attendance MTSS that reduced chronic absence from 11.25% to about 6% during tracking. She also noted recent facility upgrades, a garden grant with community partners, and plans to celebrate the program’s 40th anniversary of dual-immersion next year.
