Board to consider Envision/Savvas math adoption after year-long pilot

District math leaders told the board on April 23 that a year-long pilot of multiple publishers produced a committee recommendation to adopt the Savvas/Envision math curriculum for K–8 and algebra sequences.
Cindy Smith and the math-adoption team described the multi-step process: training on the 2023 California math framework, pilot implementations across grade spans, criteria that prioritized culturally affirming materials and multilingual-learner supports, and teacher feedback that yielded a majority vote in favor of Envision/Savvas. "Everyone can learn math," the presenter said while summarizing the framework’s philosophy and the curriculum’s asset-based approach. Staff said trainings are scheduled for late spring and summer so teachers have materials ahead of fall 2026 implementation.
Teachers and students who piloted the program spoke in support, noting features such as integrated review videos, workbooks for absent students, QR-code access to resources and a robust parent-access component. The district said the recommendation will return for board approval on May 7; if approved, purchasing and districtwide training will begin immediately so materials are available for teacher professional development before the fall term.
