New London schools, student sailors and staff honored at May 26 board meeting

District leaders and elected officials presented proclamations and awards at the New London Board of Education business meeting on May 26.
A representative from the Connecticut Association of Schools, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz and New London Mayor Passero presented proclamations recognizing Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School Campus (BDJMMMSC) as the CAS Connecticut Middle School of the Year. The district also recognized Jasmine Acosta as the recipient of the Jim Avery Youth Sailing Scholarship from the Thames Yacht Club.
The board named Students of the Month and Employees of the Quarter across schools: BDJ Multi-Magnet Middle School (student Mackenzie Butler; non-certified employee Araya Munoz; certified employee Hilary Keblis); Early Childhood Center at B.P. Mission (student Azariah Williams; employees Lori Looby, Jessica Jarrett, Gianna Varela); Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School (student Josue Guardado Guillen; non-certified Willie Carter; certified Jeanne Wilson); Nathan Hale Arts Magnet Elementary (student Daphne Maclean Barner; non-certified Mamie Bauduccio-Rock; certified Sara Kessler Kennon); C.B. Jennings International Elementary (student Kendrick Miller; non-certified Cathy Rodgers; certified Meegan Bunch); New London High School Mult i-Magnet Campus (student Julio Miranda; non-certified Sarah Favalora; certified Lura Hepler); New London Adult & Continuing Education student of the month Darwin Andrade; and Central Office employee Chris Von Glahn.
