Nevada board adds kratom derivatives to Schedule I, directs staff to capture related compounds

At its April 16, 2026 workshop, the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy voted unanimously to amend NAC 453 to add three kratom-related compounds to Schedule I: mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl. The motion, made by Jade Jacobo and seconded by Adam Porath, passed with all Board members in favor.
Board staff presented background on the recommendation from the Nevada Substance Use Response Working Group, and Washoe County Chief Medical Examiner Laura Knight testified about kratom-linked fatalities in northern Nevada. The Board opened the floor to public comment; people both opposing and supporting scheduling spoke during the record. After discussion, the Board directed staff to "capture any of the known Kratom derivatives" in the final rule language to avoid narrow statutory gaps.
The regulatory action will change how these specific substances are controlled under Nevada law and is subject to the administrative-adoption timeline. The Board recorded the motion as passed unanimously; staff will prepare final regulatory language for subsequent LCB processing and publication.
