Commissioners approve America 250 committee to bury time capsule on courthouse lawn

The Hancock County Board of Commissioners granted permission Aug. 4 for the America 250 committee to bury a time capsule on county property at the courthouse.
Heather Condra, representing Greenfield Main Street and speaking on behalf of the America 250 committee, described donated vaults and proposed contents (a 07/04/2026 newspaper, community letters and other memorabilia). "So that is my request of commission today is permission to bury that time capsule," Condra said. She said the committee plans a ceremony (tentatively in late September) and will place a marker to identify the capsule’s location. Commissioners asked the committee to coordinate with county staff and with the city’s crews (for hole-digging) and to use 8-1-1 utility locates before digging.
The board approved the request and asked the committee to return with final dates and specifics; the committee said it would try to coordinate the placement with Riley Days to maximize public participation.
