Committee approves resolution to mark 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks

The Veterans Committee on Aug. 5 approved a resolution to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and expressed support for local memorial events.
Director Frank McClements said the idea grew from broader county commemorations tied to the county's anniversaries and noted the county has “a really strong, veteran community here” and many first responders; he asked whether the board wanted to officially recognize the anniversary because the next board meeting would occur after Sept. 11. “I thought that it would be worthwhile to just bring that up and see if the board wanted to make a commemoration of the 25th anniversary,” McClements said.
Committee members agreed the county would support local town and city events rather than replace them; the draft resolution will be finalized and circulated to municipalities so towns and cities can plan observances in coordination with county leaders.
