County staff reported that eight applications were received during the March open enrollment period for inclusion in the Annual Orange County Agricultural District. The Ag Board recommended that six properties be added to the County Agricultural District—Scott & Dhesi (Village of Florida/Town of Warwick), Spinard (Hamptonburgh), Fisher (Mount Hope), Weyenberg/Williams (New Windsor), APJ Enterprises / Alfred Julian (Newburgh), and Stubaus (Wawayanda)—and recommended against adding two parcels owned by Quinn (Newburgh) and M.W. Enterprise / Max Labagh (Wallkill).
Staff described the uses at several sites: Scott & Dhesi operate a farm stand and cultivate hardwood mushrooms and pastured poultry; Fisher operates a market garden and plans targeted grazing using goats; Weyenberg/Williams produce specialty crops including forest medicinals and cut flowers; Stubaus grows flowers, herbs, fruit trees and raises chickens for eggs. The County Legislature will prepare Agricultural EAFs, hold public hearings, and submit packets to New York State Ag & Markets for certification, typically in August or September.
