Assessor: Harvard-area home prices plateau near $300,000; new construction and solar farms to be assessed

Township Assessor John Killeen told the Chemung Township board on Jan. 15 that local home sales activity remains strong even as larger-home prices level off. "New Sales volume has remained active again this month," Killeen said, adding that "homes at $300,000 appears to be a ceiling for Harvard's market." He reported seven new buildings under construction, including two duplexes, and a new office building at Alumi-Tank nearing occupancy.
Killeen said Greenway storage has put outside storage spaces into use and will be assessed Jan. 1, 2025, and that three solar farms are under various stages of construction and "assessment will be applied by the County Assessment Office." He told trustees the County Assessment Office was completing Chemung this week and that, once he receives the completed files, he will begin the 2025 review of assessments. Killeen also noted he has been elected president of the McHenry County Assessors Association and that Harvard Schools Superintendent Corey Tafoya requested eight years of township real-estate data, which Killeen said had been compiled and sent to the district.
